About Developing a Social Media Strategy:

Recommendations:

Treat social media as a real media channel

Have a content plan & a content calendar

At Edgar, they cycle through content every 3 months (That's only 4 times a year!)
Laura suggests having at least a month's worth of content to cycle through

Batch your workflow

Batching: Productivity tool of batching similar work together so you're not constantly task-switching

i.e. Clearing out your inbox, setting aside a day for writing, etc.

Think of content in categories

Inspirational quotes, funny images, links to blog posts, etc.

For businesses to refine their strategy:

Platforms to be on:

Twitter & Facebook are the two "kings" of social media

Twitter is still much more interactive than Facebook
On Facebook you need to create a large following base before you can get the conversation going.

Start with social first.

You can use it to get to know your customers & communicate with them.
Focus on the core engagement & building those strong relationships.

Ideas:

Facebook group for customers to share their opinions/ideas about the product, company, etc.

Mentionable Quotes:

"The idea that you need to create new content 3-15 times a day, every day, for the rest of your life is just not sustainable."
"In traditional advertising and marketing you would never consider crafting a message and using it once."
"Reach is decreasing across social media and that's something we can't hide from as marketers."
"The hardest part is starting from the beginning."
